Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of medicine originally developed in China over 5000 years ago that uses the insertion of very fine needles into the body to stimulate areas called acupuncture points.  Approximately 365 acupuncture points exist on the body along energetic pathways termed meridians.  These meridians correspond to the energetic functions of the organs.  There are also approximately 360 “extra points” which are known and classified acupuncture points without a meridian association and an infinite number of what are termed ashi points which are points usually associated with a local pain pattern.

All needles are discarded after each treatment.

Chinese Herbs

Herbs have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years.  Most herbs are used in combination with other herbs, rather than in a single herb medicinal.  Chinese herbs can treat a wide variety of complaints including cold and flu, PMS, Hormone imbalance, pain or Anxiety.

Cupping

Cupping has been used around the world for thousands of years.  Most indigenous cultures have developed some form of cupping. Initially used for boils and skin conditions, cupping is used now for so much more!  Our elite athletes even learned to cup themselves to stay in top form at the Olympic games!

Gua Sha

Gua sha is a healing technique of Chinese medicine. Sometimes called ‘coining, spooning or scraping’, Gua sha is defined as instrument-assisted scraping of a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create redness.

Raising sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic in Chinese medicine. Modern research shows this redness produces an anti inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment accounting for the immediate relief that patients feel from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheeze, nausea and vomiting etc.   Gua sha is effective in acute and chronic internal organ disorders.

Acupressure, Massage, Bodywork

Chinese Body Work , called Tui Na utilizes massage and stretching techniques in conjunction with acupressure points to relieve sore muscles, reduce inflammation, increase blood flow in the muscles and move toxins out of the body.
